Ancient Aqueduct in the Azores
I came across this ancient aqueduct while hiking on San Miguel, evidence of the influence of the Roman Empire's brilliant engineering long after its demise. A large part of Europe depended on aqueducts for their water supply, one of my favorites is still in use in modern Paris. The vegetation and the glimpse of the verdant hillside through the stone arches created a defined contrast in color and texture that made me feel as if I could have been strolling through the Middle Ages as the scenery is virtually unchanged.
