Ancient Bristlecone Pine

This is an ancient bristlecone pine tree along the Spectra Point Trail in Cedar Breaks, Utah. This tree is estimated to be over 1600 years old! These trees are able to withstand extreme temperatures, high winds, and poor soil, allowing them to grow at high altitude. They also divide their energy, keeping part of the tree alive while another part dies.
