Arcade in Drizzle

Haikou’s Arcade Old Street, dampened by drizzle, holds Nanyang memories. A treaty port since 1858, it linked Nanyang and inland. In 1924, Hainanese overseas Chinese built "arcade buildings" (shops below, corridors above) with volcanic rocks, blending Baroque carvings and Nanyang windows. In the photo: colorful lanterns on bluestone, slow motorcycles, strolling pedestrians. The old "shop rows" vibe lingers in mist. A "National Top 10 Historical Street" (2009), it’s still a living part of today.
