Arrival through Sea Smoke and Shadows
The icy Paul R. Tregurtha emerged through the sea smoke on a -10°F day. The big laker arrived in the Duluth Harbor for winter layup. At 1013.5 feet, the Paul R. Tregurtha is the longest ship to navigate the waters of Lake Superior and is a favorite of many boat watchers in the Duluth Harbor and the shipping canal. When she finally emerged through the winter fog, The Queen of the Lakes was frosted with ice. While it was too cold to sound her usual salute, seeing this thousand footer quietly pass through the canal was still incredible.
