Artisans from Norlha Atelier Raising Butter Lamps in Ritoma Village
This image belongs to the photo series "Dyal Thak", which in Tibetan means mutual connection, ties, continuity or, “a common thread”. It was created in 2021, on the Tibetan plateau and surrounding Tibetan Autonomous Regions. It captures a tight-knit community of majority-led craftswomen. Many of them are generational weavers, yarn-spinners, wool-felters, and have, since the 90s, used what mother nature had to offer them - yak khullu, and incorporate it into every facet of their life, without abusing it. Here we see them raising butter lamps, customary to the celebration of Lunar New Year.
