R. is a volunteer of the civil protection. When he singed up to join the local volunteer group he never imaged that one day would have witnessed such a tragedy. When I shot this portrait of him, he had just finished the daily shift at the public morgue. For over three week, R. with two other colleagues was in charge of receiving and registering all the COVID-19 deaths from the west section of Bergamo province. Among the dead he had relatives, friends and neighbors.
