Azure damselflies in tandem

In mid summer at the Bristol Botanical Gardens, many Azure damselflies can be seen whizzing around the ponds. If you look closely, you will notice that some damselflies appear to be stuck together, but this is a courtship between a male and female. The photo shows the green female laying her eggs in a miniature pool, while the electric blue male holds onto her thorax with his claspers and guards her wherever he goes. I took this shot just as the male attempted to take off, but the female stayed put to continue laying her eggs.
