This is a macro photograph of a baby praying mantis emerging from the egg case. The egg case was deposited in my front garden at the end of last summer. I did not think any would hatch as our winter was harsh temperature wise. I was in the right place at the right time to catch this moment. The baby mantis pictured here is barely 1 inch long.
