On one of my final days in Cuba's beach town Varadero, this old man limped up to the beach with nothing but his cane and shorts - no shoes, no personal effects, nothing. He had this demeanor as if nothing existed around him, a calmness that could be felt from where I was sitting. Without stopping, he walked right into the sea, cane and all, and let the waves wash over him.
