14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Bahamian woman bathing her infant son near the shore of a beach in Nassau, Bahamas in the Caribbean Sea.

I love this picture. I am amazed that I got the chance to take it. It's special to me. I can't exactly describe the feelings they had evoked within my heart that day. They were so beautiful and natural. I love photography. Since the 10th grade I have wanted to be a photographer. I wanted to work for The National Geographic Society. Dreams don't die easy. There is a feeling of excitement inside me when I'm around a possible photogenic situation which contains people and a camera in it. Capturing people on camera when they are uninhibited is too-cool. So, I'm in Nassau, Bahamas on vacation. I'm in paradise. Some will never get a chance to visit the Bahamas. I'm lucky. Truth is I am poor. But, I am also very grateful for all of my Federal Income Tax returns. No taxes, no Bahamas. Being near them that day made me think. I hope she doesn't think I'm rich or something. I saw them in the water. She was washing him with her hand, rubbing and soothing him with the water. He started getting fussy. She stood up, bent down, and took him out of the water.
