15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Baird's Quarry Pond

This pond was once a working granite quarry on Swan's Island. When it was ultimately abandoned in the 1930's, it filled with rainwater and has become a favorite entertainment spot for swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter. It obviously offers phenomenal vistas as well.
