14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Banyan Tree

This tree is one of the 47 heritage trees in Singapore Botanic Gardens located at the Tanglin Core zone. It is a rare tree found scattered throughout S. E. Asia and it is not a native in Singapore. The age of this tree is not known but was found in an 1877 photograph. As I look at this photo, it reminds me of the curtain on a concert hall stage awaiting to be drawn.
