Beekeeping has been in Barry’s family for generations and Barry contributes his introduction to beekeeping to his Grandmother—whom kept around one hundred beehives during the depression. Barry is now a certified Master Beekeeper in North Carolina. Barry and his wife Marian currently manage approximately sixty beehives. Both Barry and Marian host beekeeping meetings on their farm, where Barry helps teach beekeeping classes to students from their local beekeeping club. At the entrance to their farm is a sign that reads ‘Excuse The Weeds, We’re Feeding The Bees’. Both Barry and Marian emphasized the importance of letting wild plants that are bee friendly grow instead of mowing them. Each year, they plant various plants for their bees to pollinate and advise others that want to help the current bee population to do so as well.
