BAYA WEAVER - WEAVING ACROBATICALLY !

My wife and I had taken our son (age 10) and daughter (age 5) to a place on the outskirts of our city, to try and observe some baya weaver nests about which a friend had told me. These baya weaver birds are well-known for their intricately woven rounded nests, with an entrance. The males do the weaving and the females do the selecting of mates based on the nest standards! For getting protection from predators, the nests are typically constructed above waterbodies or marshes. Here we see a male Baya Weaver acrobatically constructing its nest - truly a work of art and labour! Wonder why this specie has evolved in this particular manner? Photographed near a lake on the outskirts of Bangalore. In October 2021.
