Playground of the South

Galveston, Texas has historically been known as the "Playground of the South." Once a booming port city and financial district in the 1800's, Galveston was devastated by multiple hurricanes. Today, Galveston has resurrected itself as a vibrant destination for tourists and is home to those who lovingly embrace the salt life along the Texas Gulf Coast. This photo was taken on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend 2020. After a couple months cooped up in their homes during the stay at home order and pandemic, tourists and Texans flocked to the island for some fun in the sun as restrictions started to lift.
