Becoming an adult
The Mundaris are part of the Karo people, one of the Nilotic peoples of South Sudan. This tribe lives mainly from its cattle, the remarkable Watusi cows with huge horns. Originally from East Africa, the Watusi were one of the first domesticated races more than 3,000 years ago. Besides the fact that these cows are resistant to many livestock diseases, they are actually undemanding of food and can survive long periods of drought. The young Mundaris are the heroes of this tribe. They are the ones who work in order to become adults, in particular by collecting the excrement of cows to burn them. They will then coat this material on the horns of the cows to prevent them from mosquito bites and sunburn.
