One of my biggest inspirations in photography, is Sofia Coppola. This specific photo is part of a series, inspired by her film, The Virgin Suicides.It started out as a project to reflect my feelings about moving to a big city for school. There is a lot of loneliness and boredom that you feel everyday that can be so overwhelming but my bedroom is a place I find solace and freedom in, hence the name, Bedroom Archive. The photo I selected, out of the series, struck me especially for the American Experience category, because as someone who is an immigrant, American iconography is all that shaped my understanding of the country. I think it is interesting to see someone so young, and have their room littered with images, of an American icon, from way before there time. I think that says a lot about American iconism, and who and what we place value on as Americans.
