Beetle Damage

This tree in the Stanislaus National Forest survived the Rim Fire of 2013 (the 3rd largest wildfire ever to hit California) but succumbed to shot-hole-borer beetles, an invasive tree-killing insect that was (unintentionally, we assume) imported from Asia.
