My digital camera, protected by a special housing that lets me shoot underwater, is my tool for exploring the boundaries between land and sea. In my “Aquatic Street” series, shot at public beaches throughout the world, I place myself at the waterline, making the waves my foreground and sometimes dipping my lens a little below them. I am drawn to intimate, unguarded moments with my subjects as I capture beach culture from the vantage point of a swimmer. These photographs are rooted in my lifelong fascination with water imagery and beach culture, a subject matter drawing on my deepest childhood memories. My photographs are infused with vivid colors and layered compositions. My aim: to evoke a hybrid sense of place composed of shifting seas, changing skies and the precarious land beneath our feet.
