The Vessel is an interactive artwork where people, by looking outward from any point on 154 intricately interconnecting flights of stairs, can enjoy new and exciting views of New York City and the surrounding area. By climbing the 16-story, 150-foot-tall structure, one acquires breathtaking panoramas and a sense of belonging with one's environment. However, after you descend and look upward from ground level in the center of this circular monument, a more transcendent view unfolds. Reaching beyond the tallest surrounding buildings, one acquires a sense of wonder and belonging beyond oneself and one's environment.
