20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Big Dipper above logging hut
We were travelling in North China when we encountered a deserted logging hut. It was autumn. The birch forest was all golden. So we decided to wait for the night to fall. When the Big Dipper started shining right above the logging hut, we lit up a headlight in the hut to illuminate its interior.
