17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Big Family
In Bass Rock there is the largest colony of gannets (Moruis bassanus) in the world. It is impressive to note that the white color of the island is due to the large number of birds nesting on it. On the island, one can share the landscape with these magnificent birds, but what impressed me most was this view of the great rock that forms the island, covered entirely by the gannets.
