A friend and I were on highway 1 heading home from a photo trip in Big Sur. We had finished taking photos early that day due to some threatening rain clouds rolling in. However, those clouds were what ended up creating this beautiful atmosphere. As the dense clouds made their way towards the coastal highway, the sun caused a warm glow that reflected softly on the sea. Right behind those clouds lay a clear blue sky, giving way to the rays that reached only the peaks of the rolling hills. On the shallow beach, the reflection of that clear blue sky was so different from the glow of the sea. Right below me grew a variety of foliage with saturated colors like yellow, pink and green. I crouched down to frame the landscape with those colors, which added a complimentary contrast. After looking at the photo for the first time, I realized that the fence in the foreground ever so perfectly leads the eye all the way to the highway carved into the hill, which then continues onward, only to disappear in the distance. I was disappointed I could not avoid the plastic bag in the foreground, particularly because plastic waste has been an important issue to me for a long time. However, I take it as a good reminder to keep taking care of the earth and to keep spreading the word on the effect that disposable plastics has on the world.
