Big World, Tiny Bird, Canon 90D, 77-300mm Lens

Tiny Sanderlings (Calidris alba) scurry along the edge of the surf on the Chesapeake Bay picking up stranded invertebrates or probe for prey hidden in the wet sand. Sanderlings breed on islands along the rocky coast of the high Arctic tundra. Once the chicks hatch, Sanderlings migrate south 3,000+ miles through the Chesapeake Bay region for the winter. They carry the frost of the arctic in their brilliant white feathers. They compete with people and and industry for their food & roosting spots. Taken at Grandview Nature Preserve, Hampton, Virginia, USA.
