16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Bighorn Rams bump and push each other during the rut.

Bighorn Rams will group into 'huddles' during the rut which is the best time to photograph them at their largest and most active. In a 'ram huddle they will rub, bump, push, shove and lick each other's horns to help determine the size of each ram where they will than square off and the fight begins.
