Black caiman

This photo is of a young black caiman from the Amazon rainforest of Peru. This species is endemic to the Amazon region of Peru, Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia. It can measure up to 6 meters in length and lives in swampy areas, rivers and lakes. Once a large population, the demand for its skin is its main threat, along with the deforestation of its natural habitats.
