Blues musician Elijah Newsome sits outside his Checker Shack in his hometown of Itta Bena, MS. For decades he and his friends have gathered at the small shack to play serious rounds of checkers. Newsome recorded and self-released a number of single on his own label in the 1980's, but remains largely unknown outside his community in the Mississippi Delta.
