20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Body of Colors

Body of Colors were photographed in the 8th Body Painting Festival in New York. 26 artist painters and 45 models participated the festival. The festival lasted for one day and it started on the Union Square and ended with a parade in Manhattan. The founder of the festival is Andy Colub, a street artist who was arrested for doing nude art painting in the public. In the court, Andy tried his best to debate for the freedom of art and in the end he won over. So New York became the only city in the United States that allows nude painting in the public. To memorize the victory of the debate, the first Body Painting Festival was held in New York in 2014.
