In this photo, I am standing outside the Lansing State Capitol, participating in a protest that is deeply personal to me. I am holding a sign demanding stronger environmental protections and accountability from the industries affecting our communities. The Capitol’s towering columns in the background remind me that laws are not just abstract rules—they directly impact people’s lives, including my own. I came to this protest because I have witnessed firsthand the harm caused by toxic pollution in my neighborhood, from health issues to environmental degradation, and I refuse to stay silent. My face shows determination and urgency, reflecting both frustration and hope. Around me, other advocates join in, each carrying signs and messages that amplify our collective call for change. The energy of the crowd, even under the gray sky, radiates resilience, solidarity, and unwavering commitment. This moment is not just about standing outside a building—it is about standing up for justice, for clean air and water, and for the safety and well-being of all citizens. By being here, I am lending my voice to a larger movement and showing that individual action matters. This photo captures the raw, unfiltered spirit of activism: ordinary people coming together to demand that those in power protect our communities. It is a reminder that change begins when we act, that advocacy is both necessary and powerful, and that every voice raised in truth contributes to a healthier, safer future.
