12th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Bridge of Allegiance
I was driving on a back road in Chautauqua County New York one summer day and came across this rickety bridge. I was so moved by the flags that lined the old bridge, out in the middle of nowhere, and wondered about the person whose heart was so filled with love for this country that they would come out here and out all of these up.
