17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World

Unlike the rest of the country, Arizona turns yellow in the spring, not the fall. From the trees to the wildflowers, the streets are decked out in yellow. These flowers bloom first and die before the more colorful summer flowers bloom.
