This image is part of a series of self-portraiture, “White Paint,” that address issues surrounding ethnic identity and the feeling of isolation. As an American of Punjabi and Scandinavian decent, I have experienced the privileges of being perceived as “white passing” in the greater social context. Sometimes, I feel that it is easier to allow society’s narrative to define me rather than facing the duality of struggling to fit into either category.
