A relatively rare dry evening in Bergen, Hordaland, Norway. Bergen is one of the rainiest cities on Earth, with an annual average of 89 inches! Bergen was established before 1070 AD, and the Hanseatic League established an office there in 1350. The buildings of Bryggen, lining the eastern side of the harbor, were then taken over by the League as warehouses, and filled with commodities like fish and cereal. In 1702, a vast majority of these buildings burnt down in a fire; the surviving ones are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hanseatic League gave Bryggen back to the Norwegian people in 1754.
