Bucolic Oakville, Landour, 7,000 feet up in the Himalayas, India
Nearly 20 years after my younger brother Sina's passing, his closest friend Ameeta asked if we could bury his ashes at Oakville, the British Raj era estate where she and her American husband Steve Alter lived. After doing so I retreated to the privacy of the bedroom they had assigned to me, and as I looked out the window, I was dumbstruck because the view looked like a painting. The flower-trees stand tall as the monsoon mist floats across the afternoon sun rays, and the guest cottage stands as testament to the sprawling, luxurious lifestyle that the British built for themselves in the hamlet of Landour, outside of Mussoorie, a popular tourist destination.
