Buddhist monks on the Ganges at night

This is a photo of a boat of Buddhist monks traveling up the Ganges River past the ghats along the shore in the city of Varanasi. Like me, these monks were tourists visiting the city and exploring the amazing environment along the ghats. This location in Varnasi is the most holy of places for Hindus. It is here that they come to bathe to cleanse themselves. Just downriver from here is the most holy place for cremation for Hindus. I loved being on that river that night. It was all new and strange. The fact that monks might travel to see sights significant to another religion was a new insight for me. We can all learn from experiencing ways of seeing the world that are different from our own.
