15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Buffalo Valley local
Taken a couple of hours before eclipse totality in Tennessee, this lovely butterfly continuously landed on my sun hat. I had set the hat atop my tripod, and minutes later I noticed this little visitor seemed enamored of it. Perhaps the color had attracted the insect. It flew away and returned several times. Or perhaps another similar one decided to rest upon the brim as well.
