Building of the Barracks

Originally used as a space to train Civil War soldiers, this Elmira training camp was converted to a Confederate prison camp when other camps became overcrowded. Here, barracks that would have been constructed by prisoners are being built by reenactors in a "living history", which demonstrates what day-to day life would be like inside the prison camp.
