At the very start of the elk rut season, the bull's and other elk in the alpine tundra begin their migration to lower elevation for the mating season. While driving trail ridge rd looking for any last bull elk, I noticed this one walking up a very steep section. Based off of my knowledge of the area, I knew there was a pull off shortly ahead that I could park. I pulled over and grabbed my main wildlife lens (150-600) and walked into position when I anticipated the bull to rise coming over the hill. As he approached, I realized my main lens focal length would not allow for the peaks to align with the bull rising from the hill. I had to sprint back to my vehicle and grab my 18-135 lens to capture the scene I have been dreaming of for years on the tundra. Luckily, by the time I made it back with the right lens, he was right where I was wanting him to be for the shot.
