Butcher Ding of the Dao de Jing

In Taoism, the Dao de Jing is the fundamental text. In this text is a parable about Butcher Ding, who as a follower of the Way is so in tune with the spirit and natural makeup of the ox that as if dancing he can flawlessly separate all the meat from the bones. Taken in the Xi'an night market, this young butcher by the bones he cleaned evoked Butcher Ding to me.
