13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Alemao's Hill (German Hill) was a farm that was being occupied to become one of the great slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The population is honest and hard-working people but there is great great tension between police forces and drug traffickers set in place. One of the measures to solve local problems, was created in 2011 the first and only public transportation by cable to the country.
