Camel Herders
Portrait of a Camel herder (Mongolia). There are more than 250,000 camels in Mongolia, most of them located in South Gobi, Middle Gobi, Gobi-Altai and Bayankhongor provinces. Its wool coat, which is shed in the summer, acts as an insulator in the winter. An adult male camel can give up to 18 kg of wool per year. Camel is almost an exclusive means of transportation across the desert and vast steppe. Unlike other livestock, a camel can continuously travel for 30 days without drinking a drop of water.
