23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
camel races, camera Leica Q2

The photo shows camel racing, one of the oldest and most cherished traditions on the Arabian Peninsula. It’s an event that connects generations: for some it is a sport, for others a part of family heritage. While taking this photo, I watched the lively evening preparations as the dromedaries were lined up at the start and their handlers made the final adjustments. Clouds of dust, the echo of shouts, and the rhythmic movement of the animals created an unforgettable atmosphere. It is a moment where modern life meets the deeply rooted traditions of the Bedouin culture.
