Canadian Tundra
An expedition to Churchill, Manitoba in northern Canada introduced me to an expected world of dramatic shapes and colours as I flew over the tundra. Shallow pools dot the surface, prevented by permafrost from seeping into the ground. Since it is impossible to build roads on this soft, spongy ground, it is accessible only by gigantic, specially built vehicles or by air.
