These high school students experienced a week canoeing and backpacking in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. The trips began in 2010 and connect students with nature while learning lifelong outdoor skills. This sustainable travel project leaves no trace and empowers students to be the environmental stewards and wilderness preservation leaders we need today and into the future. Pristine environments, including the Boundary Waters, are endangered. Creating a week-long sustainable wilderness experience for high school students takes me to a place of inspiration and renewal while helping students develop an environmental ethos for the planet’s sustainability.
