12th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Capturing a group of camels while visiting a rural village in Eritrea.
While my family and I were on vacation in my native land of Eritrea (a small country in east Africa) we visited my grandfather's birth village that was about a 15 minute drive from the city of Mendefara. The camels ran freely as the houses were settled strategically on hills overlooking the lower lands. I watched the camels as i steadily snapped this picture of them.
