21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Carrying life

I am 13 years old, I rarely go to school. For me, most of my culture and education was picked up from the street by the strength of my arm. As soon as I could help my family, I worked to bring them a little money. This morning I got up early to pick up heavyweights of vegetables that I have to take to depots. In the chaos of the vegetables market, in the midst of bad conditions, the weight of the load pulls on my arm and burns my muscles, it's so heavy that I have to stop to catch my breath a lot. Nothing protects me. I have to be very careful with myself and the load.
