Catedral Primada

This cathedral besides being the only one that is in Bogota is located in the place where was raised the first church that existed in the city in 1539 by decree of the founder Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. After four constructions in this same place, in 1807 under the plans of Fray Domingo de Petrés, the cathedral in force today is obtained. After some pertinent changes by Nicolás León the cathedral was consecrated like primate cathedral of Bogota in 1823. The last time it was restored was in 1998 and has a rectangular floor plan and three naves of the same height. The first vaída and the second with arched vaults. As for the facade is two bodies, the first has a Doric order and the second along with the towers have an Ionic order. Its interior is made up of several Chapels, one of which is the most important of all of them are the remains of some of the most outstanding figures of the history of Colombia as Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, Antonio Nariño, and the painter Gregorio Vásquez de Arce and Ceballos.
