Celebration of Vijoya Dasami by Immersion in water of Goddess Durga

Devotees believe that this Immersion in Water of Goddess Durga and Earth absorbs the power and energy of Goddess Durga. The Hindu calendar states that Goddess Durga is immersed on the tenth day of the Shukla Paksha of the Ashwin month, marking the end of the Sharadiya Utsab and Sharad Navaratri. Durga Puja celebrates the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura. It begins on the same day as Navratri, a nine-night festival in many northern and western states of India and that more broadly celebrates the divine feminine (shakti) and Most Important festival in Bengal, India Durga Puja's first day is Mahalaya, which heralds the advent of the goddess Durga.
