chauu
Chauu is an old traditional dance form pioneered by the mostly tribal population of the red soiled rahr Bengal (comprising mostly Midnapore and Purulia). Although this old tradition is slowly dying due to lack of popular interest, however, in parts of Midnapore and Purulia, chauu is still a popular cultural event. In this traditional dance performance, men dressed gorgeously in colourful attire and elaborate chauu mask as Gods, Goddesses, their bahanas and Asura perform this dance accompanied by the beat of traditional drums.
