Chief whipper during the ceremonial face painting
During the coming-of-age ceremony of bull-jumping, the best friends of the jumper are designated as “whippers”, meaning they get to whip (oh yes!) the tribe girls before the ceremony. To distinguish them from everyone else, they have their faces painted!
